The kimono, traditionally a Japanese garment to wear – now mainstream, became a huge trend back in 2014. The inherent allure to the kimono, made from beautiful silk fabrics with floral and bird prints, has become an all time favourite piece of clothing for me to wear. From more updated trendy styles, for example, the one I’m wearing in this pic on my Instagram to more traditional silk ones like this – I own a variation of styles. As I said in my previous post ‘Blazers & Black Vinyl Trousers’, I own a crazy amount of coats and jackets – However kimonos make the perfect spring alternative.

This week marked the first week of spring, and sticking with the tradition, I had a spring clean. This year has really inspired me to try and test out new things. In my ‘My Style Update’, that working full time had robbed me of my personal style. I had developed a uniform, and allowed my ‘sassy’ pieces in my wardrobe collect dust. I had become very uninspired by my wardrobe, and I ended up buying from the same online stores out of convenience.

The Kimono & Spring

Zara has done it for me this season, so it’s safe to say I am over my H&M addiction. This Kimono is just beautiful, and my most complimented so far! The green’s, golds and pinks of the print make it perfect for spring.  You can wear it loosely, or cinch it in using the belt as I have worn it in this shoot. My Miria velvet sandals from Aquazzura, are still a fave of mine, and worked so well with this look. I’ve also styled this with a black dress and rose gold heels on a night out, so it’s a great versatile piece. Great for those casual days, where you want to look a little dressed up.

Spring is usually a tricky period to dress for, as it’s sunny but still cold. The bi-polar weather that we typically get in the UK, means that you have to dress light during spring, but also wear something to keep you warm, when the weather suddenly turns. I’ve also realised that my winter wardrobe wasn’t adequate, as I constantly ran of of things to wear. However as the weather has picked up, I’m suddenly spoilt for choice.

With spring, as always it’s time for a review of my wardrobe for that spring clean. As quality is key for me, rather than quantity, putting together capsule wardrobe is top of my agenda this spring. There is no excuse to have clothes falling out of your wardrobe, and yet you have nothing to wear. Further more, it makes better financial sense. Constantly following trends, and investing in those ‘so fashion’ pieces can be expensive. Don’t get me wrong I fall into the trap too, however I wish to depict my ‘style story’ as it is on my blog – which is mixing and matching items I have. Stay tuned!
